About TUEAA:

Who Are We
?

TUEAA is a Non-Profit 501(c)(3) organization. The organization is governed by a set of bylaws utilizing an approved organization structure. There are 37 active members in TUEAA as of September 30, 2018. Our goal is to increase this membership to at least 100 by fall 2019.

Within TUEAA we have structured Departmental Alumni Organizations:

  • Aerospace Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering

The departmental organizations will provide support in driving programs generic to and supportive of the departmental goals, objectives, and needs.

Membership

Membership in the organization is strictly voluntary and limited to students and graduates of the College of Engineering, College of Engineering Faculty, and agreed Corporations. The membership year is January 1st through December 31st. Membership dues are $150 per year, which includes the annual Tuskegee National Alumni Association dues or $115 per year if a member of a TNAA Local Area Club. There is a New Graduates Membership category for students within six (6) months of graduation and four (4) months after graduation which provides FREE membership of the first twelve months after graduation and reduced membership the next twelve months.

All College of Engineering graduates and seniors within six (6) months of graduation are encouraged to join the alumni association. Joining TUEAA will enable graduates to give back to the College of Engineering and assist students in obtaining their degree and entering the workforce as a proud Engineer from an accredited and renowned university.

We are also adding a Current Students Membership category (must be verified annually) which provides FREE membership throughout matriculation in the engineering program. We encourage current students to join and actively participate, in partnership with the ESLC and the COE Coordinator of Student Activities, to ensure student needs are heard and being addressed.

Goals and Objectives:

TUEAA is committed to meeting the objectives outlined within its Mission Statement. To achieve our objectives, TUEAA has taken on a goal to increase our Endowed Scholarship Fund to $1 Million by 2020. The proceeds from the Endowed Scholarship Fund will be used to give scholarships to deserving and needy students of the School of Engineering.

2018 President's Report to TNAA:

TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY

ENGINEERING ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

(TUEAA)

TNAA Fall Board Meeting

October 18-19, 2018

The Tuskegee University
Engineering Alumni Association (TUEAA) is an organization representing graduates of all Tuskegee University College of Engineering disciplines. TUEAA, in partnership with the College of Engineering staff and Faculty, is assisting the school in achieving its goal of academic excellence by:

  • Supporting key facility and infrastructure needs
  • Improving overall academic proficiency of its students
  • Providing scholarship funding to deserving students
  • Improving career opportunities for Engineering graduates

In order to achieve some of the goals of TUEAA, the members continue to focus their efforts on reaching $1,000,000.00 in our Endowed Scholarship fund and contributing to the completion of critical facility and infrastructure upgrades yearly.

TUEAA Endowed Scholarship Update:

Though it still proves to be a challenge, we continue to work aggressively toward our goal of $1,000,000.00 principal balance for our TUEAA Endowed Scholarship. TUEAA has a current balance of $575,000.00 as of our 18th Biennial report and we have given scholarship awards totaling over $14,900.00 to six (6) students for the fall 2018 semester.

We and invite, and encourage, you to join our “Legacy of Giving” by making financial contributions to the scholarship fund.

All contributions are welcome and can be sent to Lisa McMullin, Business Manager, College of Engineering, 1200 W Montgomery Road, Luther Foster Hall Suite 200, Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Alabama 36088, or visit our TUEAA web site at www.tueaa.org to contribute electronically. Checks must be made out to Tuskegee University and specify that your donation is for the TUEAA Endowed Scholarship Fund. If your company participates, Corporate Matching Gifts are a great way to increase your donation.

HOME DEPOT RETOOL YOUR SCHOOL GRANT CONTEST:

TUEAA has provided the leadership for Tuskegee University’s Home Depot Competition for the past eight years. This leadership has allowed the University to win $170,000.00 to date.  The initial grants contributed to the improvement of the outside and inside of Luther Foster Hall as well as to refurbish the third floor of Douglas Hall. In 2016, our awarded grant of $30,000.00 was used to renovate the athletic tennis courts. In 2017, we were awarded the $40,000.00 grant which was put to use for the renovation of the bathrooms in Adams Hall and Luther Foster Hall. Most recently for 2018, we received the top award of $50,000.00 which was used to create the new outdoor social hub located adjacent to Russell, Banneker, Bethune and Younge residence halls. This multiuse area provides students, especially those living around this high-traffic area of campus, with a space to study and socialize, as well as a location for teaching classes, hosting student recruitment and campus tour groups, and conducting events.

TUEAA Distinguished Service Award:

We are pleased to report that our 2018 recipient is Paul Jones, Chairman of the College of Engineering Industry Advisory Board and Director of the TNAA North Central Region. Paul was presented his award in the presence of friends and family on March 14, 2018 in the Luther Foster Hall Auditorium with a reception following.

This award serves as an ongoing recognition and celebration of individuals who have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments and made significant contributions to engineering, engineering services, and/or STEM fields, as well        as to Tuskegee University. Recipients may be living or deceased. An online nomination form is available at http://www.tueaa.org.

TUEAA Annual Meeting and Membership Drive:

TUEAA continues in partnership with the College of Engineering (COE) to host our annual general body meeting along with a COE open house during Homecoming weekend in the Luther Foster Hall auditorium. Dean Aglan will provide information on the current state of curriculum and facilities as well as any updates on the ABET accreditation process.

TUEAA Leadership Team members attended the “Order of Engineer” graduation ceremony at the College of Engineering on May 11, 2018 which provides a great opportunity for us to encourage new graduates to join TUEAA.

TUEAA’s goal is to add at least 50 new members to our organization during 2018. Engineering alumni can easily join TUEAA by going to www.tueaa.org and click on the “how to join tab”. TU Engineering Alumni, Faculty, and Friends & Family are encouraged to join.

TUEAA Mentor/Mentee Program:

Our Mentor/Mentee program is being revamped to facilitate student engagement, address student needs, and identify and match upcoming graduates as well as current students appropriately with willing Alumni mentors. Engineering alumni that wish to become a mentor should contact our Mentoring Program Chairperson, Gaynelle Swann at kyrysma02@gmail.com.

TUEAA VISION FOR THE FUTURE:

  • Increase membership by 2X each year
  • Endowment fund reaches over $1 Million
  • Award at least 10 scholarships greater than $2K each per semester each year

TUEAA is working very hard for a better College of Engineering at Tuskegee University.

Respectfully submitted,

Dainelle Swann Baughman
